Caminho para Puno
4910m
The highest point of my travels. 4910m, higher than Mont Blanc in Europe.
The group with whom I travelled around Peru. A canadian, a peruvian(the guide), 3 australians, 2 swedish and the Hayes sisters from Ireland.
Colca Canyon
The natives of the region have as their main activities the farming and cattle producing, but the tourism is starting to grow.
In its deepest part the canyon is 1000m deep and 300m wide.
Colca canyon
The way to the Colca canyon. At 3300m above the sea level the altitude sickness was dealt with the traditional medicines. Coca leaves to be chewed or one of the many coca sweets.
Hayes sisters preparing their coca leaves.
With his lost look this native was sufering from altitude sickness, for sure.
Arequipa
Nasca lines
Here there are the world famous Nasca lines. Because they are only visible from the sky, we took a 45min. plain ride to see what was all about. Made by pre-inca cultures, their meaning is still subject of debate.
The humming bird.

Pisko
Visit to a Pisko farm, where the drink with same name is produced.
The Hayes sisters studying the goods and the chance of busiseness importing the drink to Ireland.
Lima, Peru
After a quiet stay in Chile, Peru offered the perspective of busier days for the 3 weeks of travelling around the country. Two days in Lima and we were caught in the middle of a big gathering/party/assembly about the importance of time keeping for all the Peruvians. Do not forget that this is South America.
All the taditional dancing and singing groups from around the country were present before the President speach. Don´t know if the words of the President made an impact because himself was late for the speach.
South America
And now Souh America. First stop: Santiago, Chile. One week of relaxation from the ectic life in NZ. Not being a paricularly pretty city, the sunny days were spent enjoying the many nice cafes and the warm nights in the local pubs. A good way of integrate oneself smothly in a different culture.
The cathedral in the Plaza de Armas. Virgem no monte de San Cristobal, tipo Cristo Redentor no Rio de Janeiro.
Our Lady at the top of San Cristobal hill, similar to the Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.
Roturoa
Last stop to enjoy another wonder of the nature: the volcanic activity that left a persistent smell of rotten eggs in the town of Roturoa.
Time left to enjoy the outdoor activities in this park dedicated solely to the mountain biking.
Maori Village
Abel Tasman National Park
At top of the north island you find one of the many and wonderfull national parks in NZ. This particular one includes a part of the coast line and the only way to accede to the nice beaches is by hiking some of the 50km of paths or by sea in a txi-boat or a kayak. We decided to kayak one way and walk the return way.
Purificacao
Mont Cook
View of mont Cook from the lake Pukaki. The incredible blue is due to some mineral coumpond at the bottom and some strange phenomenom of the Nature taht i can´t recall now.

Lago Wanaka
Wanaka
Wanaka City. Surrounded by lakes and mountains his is definitely one of the prettiest cities in NZ.
As in any good day out the picnic is something essential. In NZ we had them every day.
That was Frodo walking to save the middle earth.
